Breakfast in Trim
Where to get breakfast in Trim, Co. Meath
A local guide from the team at Lua on Bridge Street.
Trim is a small market town. Breakfast options are limited, but the ones that exist are genuinely good. Most are walk-in. Most serve until early afternoon. Most sit within five minutes of the Castle. This is our honest take on where to eat breakfast in Trim — whether you're passing through or looking for a regular Saturday spot.
Breakfast at Lua
We're biased, but here's what we do.
A soft Waterford-style blaa with sausage, bacon, egg and relish. American-style pancakes with real maple syrup and Irish berries when we can get them. Yogurt and porridge for lighter mornings. Fresh pastries from Doreen's, coffee by Cloud Picker.
We're dog friendly — we know most of our regulars' dogs by name. No bookings, walk-in only. Indoor and outdoor seating. 9am to 3pm Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm Sunday.
Cross the bridge from the Castle. We're on the right.
Other breakfast spots worth knowing about
We're not the only option in town.
Stonewall Coffee. A family-run spot on Castle Street with a serious approach to coffee and a menu that earns it — açaí bowls, homemade bakes, a proper breakfast until 11am. Outdoor seating, walk-in only. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 8am, Sunday from 9:30am. The kind of place locals actually go.
Bosca at Marcie's. An outdoor barista bar in the car park of Marcie Regan's pub, on the banks of the Boyne. Not a full breakfast — coffee, hot chocolate, snacks — but the setting is hard to beat: views of the old abbey and the river, no queue, no fuss. Worth knowing about if you want a coffee and some air before a walk.
Boann Cafe at the Trim Castle Hotel. The hotel cafe is open to non-guests and does a proper sit-down breakfast — full Irish, eggs Florentine, pancakes, pastries. Bookable, which matters if you're arriving in a group. A step up in formality from the other options on this list, but the food is solid.
